I found the tiniest hotel room in Stockholm!

On my trip to Stockholm, Sweden, last fall, I decided to stay on a boat instead of on land.  I booked a room with a bath on the Red Boat, a hostel on the river.  The room was an odd shape – not just because of the curvature of the boat.  This is the widest part of the room.  The bed was clearly meant for two – and would have been comfortable, except for the length.  The end of the bed where the pillow shows had a wall there, too.

The chain in the upper right of the picture was attached to a drop-down single sized bed.  To the right, in the alcove was a raised desk with a stool and waste basket under it.  I used it to put my suitcase on and stored my tote bag under it.  The doorknob on the right opens the door to the bathroom.

Closet End of the Cabin.
This shows the “closet.”  The door on the right leads out of the room.  The door on the left is the bathroom, which as you can see is very narrow.  There is a curtain that covers the door for when you are using the hand-held shower to actually shower with.  The floor has a drain in it, so the whole room is your shower.

Along the quayside were hotels,

and restaurants, along with some working boats which were typically moored end on,

Across the water were interesting buildings that I did not explore and cannot identify.

The class I attended was held in this beautiful old building which was originally a brewery.

It rained every day until the last day I was there, so I did not see any other sights.  Maybe next time…

Welcome Back! And miscellaneous thoughts about winter in the mountains…

Let’s start with an apology.  I have not been writing for quite a while and during that time I lost my hosting domain which is why when you’ve tried to read this blog it hasn’t worked.  However, with this new address I will resume the weekly postings.  There may still be a few kinks to work out in communication and if you find any, I’d appreciate your writing them in the comments here.

Mountains Visible from my Windows.

I was asked a while back if I could see any mountains from my house.  Now that the leaves are off the aspens, I was able to take the picture above from my back window.  (That’s why it’s a bit fuzzy – it’s not only through the window, there’s a screen there as well.)  This view is looking east just before sunrise.  The near ground, up to the fence, is my back yard.  Beyond the fence is my next-door-neighbor’s house and beyond that a pair of peaks.  Here’s a little closer look.

Closer View of Mountains from my Window.

The near roof is my neighbor.  The roof just beyond his house is a commercial building that fronts on the highway.  These two pictures were taken on December 30, 2015.

Closer View.

Here is another set of mountains, taken from “Panorama Point” on November 2, 2015.  (All of the following pictures were taken on the same day.)  We’ve had a lot of snow since then, so the near ground is snow covered now and I haven’t been back.  I would imagine the mountain tops have even more snow than pictured here…

The nearer mountains did not have snow yet in November.

We get a bit of snow on many days at my house, but the weather is either so cold that the snow blows or warm enough in the sun for the snow to melt.  So although my driveway has been plowed three times so far this winter – the plow man comes when the snowfall is greater than 4 inches – I still have bare patches in my back yard.  (The front yard does not get as much sun because of the huge tall pines on the south side of my driveway…)

I have also been traveling a lot since I stopped posting, so there will be many travel posts in the following weeks.  Again, I welcome you back and thank you for your patience!
