Do you actually love the life you are living? Or are you living from habit? So many of us pick a job or career when we
first start out because it sounds interesting or exciting. And it is.
To start with. So you go to work
the first week or month because there are new and exciting things to learn and
people to talk with. But eventually, it
becomes less exciting. Less
interesting. Then it becomes a habit to
get up and go to work doing the same thing at the same time.
You get fed up with the job, but blame it on the
company. Or the co-workers. So you start looking for a new job – but in
the same line of work. Because it’s what
you know how to do. What you think (or
resume readers think!) is what you are best at.
What if none of that is true? What if you could be a much greater
contribution to the world doing something else entirely? We don’t seem to consider that question. Or if we do, we discount it. “I don’t
have the experience it takes to…” “No one would hire me to…” et cetera. And the world seems to agree.
Even if we know what we could do, we stop ourselves. Why?
What are you afraid will happen
if you try something new? Who are you
afraid will be unhappy or disappointed if you try something new? Why are judgments stopping you – your own
judgments or someone else’s?
Courage is a learned thing.
So take a small step. Find
something small you really want to do and try it. You might fail; you might also succeed! But what you will find out is the the world
will not stop. The sun will still come
up. Your neighborhood will still look
the same. In fact, very few people will
even notice. But you will. You will see that you are capable of taking a
risk. Then, take another one. And another one. Pretty soon you’ll recognize that the only
one who is keeping you from having a life of adventure – the life you’ve always
dreamed of – is YOU.
What would you really like to do? Do it!
I DARE YOU!
