Tour of Peru
June 15-28, 2010
I figure that the easiest way to document this trip is to start from
their itinerary and add my own comments, observations, and pictures. My
stuff is in black. Theirs is in blue.
Day 4/June 18: Seminar time with Gregg.
Today visit the ancient Incan town of Ollantaytambo. This important site is situated at the end of
the sacred valley in the midst of spectacular mountains, and we will take a
while to savor their inner power and majesty.
Ollantaytambo is most famous for six enormous stones, so huge that some
say only magical powers could have moved them there. If
time allows, you will have the opportunity to shop in the colorful shops and Town Square of present-day Ollantaytambo,
which adjoins the ruins of the ancient city.
Travel to the ancient Incan village of Chincero,
where the terraced farmlands of the Incas are still visible. Chincero was the main population center for
the entire Sacred
Valley in Incan times and
today an active traditional “weaving” center. Later today a Peruvian Shaman
will do an ancient Incan ceremony and welcome blessing with the group.
Okay,
so day 4 we probably went to Ollantaytambo.
(We did not go to Chincero as those were the weaving ladies who came to
us.) However, we might have done
Ollantaytambo on day 5… Incredible
scenery. Incredible steps. Incredible terraces. Here are the huge stones. There are actually 6 there. Where Gregg is pointing is actually stones 3
and 4. To the right you can also see the
foundation where it is assumed that they were planning to put a 7th
stone.

And
just to prove that I actually did go on this trip… (Also that I am basically an Inca-sized
person! Joe and Marilyn would have had
trouble with doorways!)
